Housing staff join Give and Gain Day

Staff from a local Housing Group rolled up their sleeves and took part in the nationwide 'Give and Gain' Day initiative recently where employees took on the challenge to help projects in their local communities. The Pennaf Housing Group, which includes Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, based on the Business Park in St Asaph, took on two community challenges, one in Rhyl and one in Holywell, to help improve the lives of others.

As part of the Rhyl challenge, staff joined residents, board members and directors and teamed up with volunteers from Simmons Services Ltd to spruce up an area around Y Gorlan and Brighton Road, laying new turf in a communal area and repairing and repainting fencing.

"The Pennaf Group is all about opening doors and enhancing the lives of others. We are committed not only to providing innovative high quality housing solutions but also to creating dynamic, sustainable communities, which is why it was great to see staff at all levels volunteering to help out," said Graham Worthington, Group Chief Executive for Pennaf.

"It was an excellent way for colleagues who work in different departments and volunteers from our contractors to get together with residents and have fun while contributing to worthwhile projects at the same time" he added.

Last year across the UK a total of 221 organisations and 6,803 employees got involved in 'Give and Gain Day', and more than 20 staff from the Pennaf Group have taken part along with volunteers from partner organisations.

Housing Officer Shelley Debono who coordinated the Y Gorlan activities said the Rhyl event had been a fantastic success:

"Residents really appreciated that staff had come along to help and it was brilliant that not only did our contractors Simmons Services help with repairs and painting over the two days, but their Managing Director Paul Simmons and his wife Tracey also put on a barbeque for everyone too."

"We'd like to thank everyone who helped out and supported us, including the residents who helped with the work and also kept us going with mugs of tea!"

The Pennaf 'Give and Gain' volunteering projects were supported by partner organisations including: GroundWork North Wales, Simmons Services Ltd, Bushmede, Anwyl Construction and Keep Wales Tidy.
